In New York State (including New York City), the mortality rate associated with HCV increased from 4.0 per 100,000 population in 2001 to 5.5 per 100,000 population in 2015 [18].

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 162,863 cases of chronic HCV infection (past or present) nationwide in 2015 [9].

The availability of safe and effective regimens of oral DAAs has revolutionized HCV care.

New DAA agents and new combinations of agents continue to be tested and approved, and these efficacious combinations have replaced earlier treatments as the standard of care for curing chronic HCV infection.
